The Look: Located on one of Athens' most beautiful streets in a superlatively renovated historic home, Hugh Acheson's flagship restaurant has a warm feeling from the moment you walk up onto the big porch, where you can eat outside. To the left is a separate bar room that's dark and cozy. The rest of the rooms are intimate, each with its own character. Service is uniformly excellent. Menu: Serious dining that stays up on trends and pushes the envelope without being obnoxiously hip. Some items recur frequently, like the sweet corn and vanilla soup and the watermelon and feta salad with serrano vinaigrette, but there's always something new to eat, too, based on the season. If a description like fried pork roulade with charred broccoli, pickled rhubarb, sweet strawberry jam, buttermilk and lovage makes you salivate, go ahead and make reservations. Tuesday nights bring housemade ramen at the bar, Sunday nights are for fried chicken, and an early-evening three-course prix-fixe is low-priced. Brunch is a pleasure, too, and the pastry kitchen is on point. Drinks: Wine guy Steven Grubbs has been nominated for a James Beard Award repeatedly, and it shows. The list is wide-ranging, pithily described and fun. The bar mixes unpretentious but smart cocktails, and there is a great selection of ports, sherries, single-malts and the like.
